    So the engagement's off?
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

We know it will definately fit on the motherboard, hubby has checked and it has a 16x PCI-E slot.

    The comp specs are:

    AMD Athlon 64 3700+ processor
    2gb RAM
The current graphics card is the ATi Radeon X1300 512mb which lets the computer down unfortunately.

I have ordered another PSU to go with the graphics card, just to be on the safe side.

  • Which PSU and GPU did you go for?
  • The 8800GT is an excellent card, but the 4850 is better, and is two or so revisions above the 8800GT (in equivalence dispite different manufacturers) - but would be wasted on a single core CPU like a 3700.

All it means though is that you will have a card thats decent enough to carry you over to your next PC..:D

The 4850 is an excellent card, however as has been pointed out, the CPU will hold it back.
I recommend the radeon 3850 for £49.99 from ebuyer, and then depending on your motherboard, drop in a £50 dual athlon chip. Will probably give you better performance than the 4850 card alone.

For that CPU, a nVidia 9600GT card is a good match. It runs cooler, is nearly the same performance as a 8800GT (virtually matches it at normal TFT monitor resolutions) but is about £25 cheaper.
