but OH's parents both died when I was pregnant with our son, who is now 3, and OH was in the unfortunate position of inheriting some money when he was 26.
No amount of money makes up for that does it.0 -

I'm not moving to the country expecting excitement. A big garden, peace and quiet will do me.0 -

My parents bought their one and only property in 1969 for £3,500. I have no idea what my dad's salary was at the time (he is a typical old style male and thinks it's no business of the female knowing!) but it was purchased on just his salary.
It was only purchased as a short term thing whilst he worked on a contract in this area (he was in construction) and our next move would have been Malta if the silly billy hadn't fallen off the bridge he was making!
Now nearly 39 years, they are still there!
I do remember the early years being very tight money wise with lots of jumble sales clothes but then that was probably more to do with dad not being able to be in his normal occupation.
We bought our house in 1990 (yeah I know, we were silly) and it was worked on our joint salaries, I can't remember the actual way they worked it but it gave us a pot of £39k plus a 5% deposit. Unfortunately due to the problems we had, I have blanked out most the details from my memory. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Never in a million years. It was worse for OH's brother - still in his teens....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

so sorry to burst your ballon but wallasey has never been cheshire....i live on the welsh/cheshire border...It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
My parents' birth certificates both say they were born in Wallasey, Cheshire....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

OH and I have never bought a place. When we do, it'll be a 4 bed place in central London, that we want to live in for a long time. Why not do that?
.
It's the only way that many can afford to get into property. It used to be that you could pick up small, not so great places for really reasonable prices.
Of course, when even a rubbish FTB rabbit hutch costs 150k or more and the steps of the ladder are getting further apart (and hence more expensive to traverse) it doesn't seem to me to be such a great idea to put yourself into penury to live in a pretty basic place.
Better to rent somewhere decent and save, save, save in the interim. Then buy when the market corrects...as us 'bears' have been saying for some time now
Not that most of those 'bulls' seem to get it - they do take talk of property prices going down awfully personally for some reason--
Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.0 -

Possibly the difference is due to local govt/post office boundries.
For example, according to the Post Office Bromley is in Kent. According to the Government it's a borough of London.0 -
My family are from Middlewich in Cheshire and I always though of Wallasey as being in Cheshire when I was a girl.0
