Network drive access

I am trying to access my Maxtor Network drive from my laptop, I can see the drive, and do know the name and password, however, when I type in the name and pwd and press enter it is coming back with the name being prefixed Laptop\Name which it does not like.

I am using Vista, and appreciate it is probably something I have set up wrong, but cannot seem to find how/why. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

I dont have a Maxtor NAS, but wondered if you have password protected the drive/files, I doubt it to..... What you are seeing may be the network user name interface coming back to you.
Does the laptop require a utility prog to access the NAS?

thanks totalsolutions, your comments rang some bells with me that Ihad to do something to make it work with Vista so googled and found the fix again, and installed it, but it still will not find exisitng accounts, and if I create a new one, it will not let me into Public without the password, but it is still prefixing the username with Laptop\ which the drive does not recognise.

One forward, two back as usual.
