Hi Everyone.
Could you guys help at all?
My Fiancee is expecting our first child in a couple of months, she is now on Maternity Leave and due to a redundency will not be going back to work. (The same place anyway.) Too early at this stage to plan going back to work anyhow.
However, i work full time, and someone said that we will be entitled to tax credits.? Never been this way before, i havent a clue. Ive tried using the online calculator but i get confused....(not hard is it!)
Can anyone advise if they are in a similiar position, or was in a similiar position, and have found light at the end of the tunnell?
By the way, i work 40 hrs a week, and my salary is 22500.
Thanks.

Hi
You will definately get - child tax credit and child benefit but you may also be able to get the surestart grant (£500) and working tax credits.
the calculators are a nightmare, just call the inland revenue and they should be able to help you...its much better talking to a person.
Good luck with the baby

On a £22500 income, you will only be entitled to the basic amount of child tax credits at £545 per year. (Doubled to £1090 in 1st year, then back down to £545 after)
This is paid 4 weekly.
You will also get CB of £18.80pw, again this is normally paid 4 weekly.
You will not receive anything else.0 -
Thanks so much for your help. Ive found the Inland Rev Number i believe, and im just about to give them a call. Its nice to know about the child tax credit as i didnt think we'd be able to claim anything. Never claiming for benefits before its a bit complicated how to go about it. They always say that they never offer it to you, you have to claim it. And not knowing what to claim - thats the problem. So thanks for your advice.
Baby should be here in 6 weeks....:j0 -
