Which fridge and washing machine to buy?

In my experience it's usually worthwhile reading reviews or looking at magazines like Which? or Good Housekeeping as they will let you know about how easy the items are to use/clean etc as well as other things like noise levels or energy/water usage. There's a £1 Which trial at the moment - see my earlier post on the newspaper thread: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=13773725&posted=1#post13773725
Re Hotpoint, agree with other posters. We got one - very quiet and very user friendly, love all the functions but it's broken down loads. Wish I'd done some research before buying it!0 -
which etc are popular for some reason, the people who write the reviews are journalists, and in my experience very often wrong. save yourslef the money and use your own research or trust store staff advice. i can't help feeling if which magazine told its readers to jump off a cliff 2/3 of them probably would0

My Hoover washer/dryer is about 7 years old at most. It's on it's second motor and it's so loud now - I can hear the bearings grinding when it spins so I know it's not going to last much longer.
Trouble is which one do we buy? I Googled miele but they are well over £800, and I think a bit too dear for me?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I have had my Hoover wahser drier for 7 years as well. Abxolutely no problems so far. This is the ONLY washing machine out of many many that has lasted more than 5 years. I was just going to recomend it but maybe I should shut up if it is going to go soon like yours.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

I was on a tight budget when I bought a Beko freezer thinking I could afford to replace it later but it was still going strong after 9 years. I had an Indesit 1200 spin at that time, a friend's identical one broke within 3 years but mine kept on going ( left there so don't know if they expired soon after or not). I recently bought a Beko fridge on the strength of that.
Washer, I hear its all the fancy dials and super1400 / 1600 spin that look good for the price but if its at the expense of build quality they shake themselves to bits.No longer half of Optimisticpair
