Hi
My OH and I are trying to conceive and I found out today that I have endometriosis.
Has anyone had a laproscopy before? Was it painful?
The other downer is that we are too old for fertility treatment on NHS

Hello, sorry to hear about the news you got about the fertility treatment.
I'm normally a bit of a lurker on here but didn't want to read and not respond. I've had problems with ovarian cysts and have had both a laparotomy and a laparoscopy.
I had the laparoscopy earlier this year and it was fine. They went in through my belly button and apart from a little soreness afterwards I was fine, for me the worst thing was the effects of the anaesthetic (general not local) as they generally make me incredibly lethargic and for a couple of weeks afterwards I felt really tired all the time. You're not allowed to lift heavy things or do things like hoovering for a while afterwards (shame) but after a few good sleeps i felt much better . I have a tiny little scar in my belly button and thats all there is to show for it. If you've got any questions about it just ask away (not a medical expert I'm afraid but happy to share my experiences).
Take care xx0 -

I was in and out in a day as they did it via keyhole (belly button.)With very little pain except a bit of tenderness.
I was having problems concieving had been trying for a second child for 2 years.
Heres the best bit.....................
I came home from honeymoon with more that a tan!!!!!!!!
I had fallen pregnant the month after having the surgery.
I was so pleased i gave my consultant a huge kiss when i went back for my follow up appointment!!!!I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0 -
Hiya,
I've had 5, all for endo, the only problem is the 'wind' you experience after the op. I'm not sure what they do but they seem to pump you up with gas and it traps up in your shoulders.....that was more uncomfortable than the couple of stitches in tummy button and bikini line entry points.
As for having babies, we were told we couldn't and we've now got 2 bundles of joy.
Good luck with the lap and take it easy.

You'vve had five laprocospies?!!
congrats on your kids.
Also thanks to everyone for their words of support.“It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living.”

Echo what everyone says about the laparoscopy. It's not fun but it's not too bad. I expanded in size with the gas - so wear loose clothing.
I have 2 children now as well.
A freind of mine was having trouble conceiving, eventually had a laparoscopy and had some endometriosis lasered off and was pregnant a couple of months later. So hopefully you won't need fertility treatment.
Good luck.Grocery challenge July £250

'Fraid so and 2 c-sections! Tummy looks like a patchwork quilt but well worth it.:rotfl:
If you've found a GP & Gynae Cons who understand then you're halfway there, the op really isn't that bad, just don't overdo things afterwards, you'll be dozy from the general and tender too.
All the best

A laparoscopy seems to be 'common' a few women here at work have had it!
