Dealing with the courts and speeding fines

Hi all,
A friend of mine has got himself into a bit of a situation. Before Christmas he had fairly large sum of money mistakenly deposited into his bank account by a company he used to work for. At the time he was really skint so he took a risk and didn't tell anyone about it and ended up spending it. He has virtually no money now but they are trying to recover the money from him via the courts. Where does he stand on this and can he arrange to pay back this money in installments or something?
On a related matter, the same person also has an unpaid speeding fine, and because he didn't pay it the costs have now reached around £500. Again, same question, where does he stand and is it too late for him to go to them and arrange to pay it off in installments? (I'm not sure of all the ins and outs of this, or how old the fine is because that's all he told me)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

for the parking fine, he needs to ask on https://www.consumeractiongroup.com or pepipoo:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Hi there,
I know a friend of my husbands repeatedly avoided paying a fine. He never showed up to court, and in the end there was a warrant issued for his arrest. The police went to his house on a friday evening and they kept him in the cells all weekend until he went into court on the monday morning.
So I'd advise you to make sure that he definitely shows up in court.
Hope he gets on okay!0 -
He can arrange to pay the money back to the employer in instalments but he'll need to make a realistic arrangement.

He can ASK to pay the money back in installments - they don't have to accept... As for the speeding fine... do as Herbie says - tell him to go deal with it! Yes you can often come to an arrangement - if he can show them all he can afford a week is £5 then they will put the payment at £5 I think...
His best bet though is to go an d deal with it before they issue a warrent...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
