Credit card protection?

Don't know if anyone could help with this. My DH bought me a diamond ring in Turkey 3 weeks ago (Bodrum Gold center). This store was on a travel agent trip and came highly recommended. However after having worn it only 3 times, I noticed yesterday that a (v small) diamond is now missing. The ring was expensive and bought on a Nationwide credit card. We have contacted Nationwide who don't seem to know what protection we have from the card, despite the card coming with booklets on free protection. I have emailed the store and am waiting for their response. Has anyone any experience of faulty goods bought on a credit card and what, if any, protection I might have please?
Thanks
