Economy 7 should it be taken out?

Most of the times in the link provided in post#16 are a 9 hour slot and you have 7 hours within that slot.
Also on the older mechanical meters it is not unknown for the timing clock to be fast(or slow) by hours.
It will be easy to check your times by getting up early(or staying up late) and watching the meter0 -

Hi, Sorry if this the wrong place to post.
Why did ebico ask me whether I need E7?
Turns out I used more than 50% so they didn't say anymore.
By the way I can hear the E7 meter switching times especially at night.0 -

In many cases it works to the customer's advantage!0 -

With an economy 7 meter you get cheaper electricity during the night. This may be controlled by a timer in the meter, a separate timer or a radio signal. The times for the off-peak period vary across the country and can be different for customers living in the same area. Your economy 7 meter may operate at different times, but you still receive at least 7 hours at the cheaper rate. Your supplier does not hold any information on the exact times of your meter. The best way to learn the off-peak period is to look at your meter around the times indicated below. Please note that the times on the meter are always set to GMT and do not change when the clocks go forward or back.
East Midlands = 11pm - 7am
Hmm we had a timer thing in the pantry but turned it into a downstairs toilet and they took it out - will this effect anything?? If the timer is in the meter it wouldn't know which company we are with would it so it might be different times to the ones they are quoting??Does this mean I have to get up early and look to see which part is turning round?? Now I'm even more confused!!
The electricity in eastmids is produced by EoN (formerly Powergen and before that EastMidlands electricity board) so it is them that decide the hours not Scottish Power or in my case Npower,so should be the same whatever company you are with.
The advantage of ending at 8.0am is that it gives you time in the morning to carry out some tasks without a timer.
Lastly, as Cardew has pointed out earlier, the difference between the day rate standard tariff and the day rate E7 for Scottish power is very small, that is why you are just about breaking even when using less than 25% at night. With this differential being so small it could work to your advantage by trying to use a little more at night (or before 8.0am if that is your time also)0 -

Hi,
Thanks everyone
(....off to find a torch for watching meter later!!!)
:rotfl:
well maybe not tonight I can think of better things to do on a Friday night  hmmm maybe a quick check later the numbers are quite big should still be able to tell through beer goggles!?[0 -
I have E7 meter as a long while back E7 worked out cheaper. I still have the meter but the elec company adds the two figures and so I'm on standard tariff. This has been the same for BG, Eon, Npower, and I think Utility warehouse. It would surprise me if a elec company couldn't do that. If they said they couldn't I'd be inclinced to ask why they were so useless then compared with all the others that don't have a problem.0

This is in the meter box. They would have moved it at the time as you need it to have economy 7. Have a look in the meter box.
I have my dishwasher and washing machine on timer plug in sockets so they come on at night. If I have more than one wash as then at least one is done cheaply.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........
