Where are my title deeds....?

Can anyone help?
I'm in the process of selling my shared ownership property. Solicitor has written to mortgage company (Abbey) for the Title Deeds, but asked me to check if I had them. I definitely haven't, so I calls Abbey and they say they haven't got them either (something to do with an electronic charge and not needing paper copies?)
So, I've called the solicitor who dealt with the purchase (about 3-4 years ago) and they haven't got them either.
So, if I haven't got them, lender hasn't got them, previous solicitors haven't got them, who has??
ta in advance for any ideas?

You don't actually need them nowadays its all electronic and on the Land Registry. Although the physical deeds are very useful and indeed interesting
I think most mortgage companies sent any physical deeds back to their owners when the electronic system came in"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

thanks guys - i did check with the shared ownership people and they don't have em either
oh well, will have to tell solicitor to just do whatever to get the sale going forward again as this seems to be holding things up (and I definitely don't want to risk losing my buyer )Official DFW Nerd no: 563 - Proud to be dealing with my debts:j0 -
We just sold our house in Kingston upon thames, the building society sent ours out,but we never got them.
They got copies for us but it held the sale up for a couple of weeks.
Now that it is all held on computers the need for having the hard copies has goneOwing on CC £00.00 :j
