Home phone override no. for elderly parents

Options
Can anyone recommend a company they can use without calling a specific number each time they dial - ie have the prefix no. stored in front of their regular numbers. They don't have broadband, so that narrows the choices down. At the moment they are using something 1363? - but I'm sure they could get cheaper. Most of their calls are during the day and an odd one to OZ.

:confused:

    Thanks, but not sure if they'll be able to use it as they have no internet access - I suppose I could try and set it up via my computer?

    Certainly someone with internet access (you?) would need to set up the account for them but there's no need for them to have internet access to actually use 18185.

    What I did for my Mother:

    1. Set up a googlemail.com e-mail address for her and immediately set up forwarding to one of my own e-mail addresses so that I received any incoming messages arriving at her e-mail address;

    2. Set up the 18185 account online usinf that e-mail address and, using her bank account details, set up the Direct Debit payment option too;

    3. Came to an arrangement with her to tell her when her invoice arrived, how much it was and approximately when it would be called from her account (she never bothered asking me to print out the itemised calls log, the amount was so small).
    Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Thanks for this - sounds easy enough, I'll give it a go if they feel "happy" about it!
