Essentials Tarrif - Essentially a rip off!

I agree, I am totally confused!! I think I may have to change to another provider with only one tariff!!!!!0

Spoke to Brit Gas yesterday and he said that Essentials Tariff is the cheapest at present. The prices for Electricity in the South East area are:
Click 5: 21.605 Tier 1
7.077 Tier 2
Essentials: 14.193 Tier 1
9.348 Tier 2
For low users(using those figures) Essentials will be cheaper, but at average consumption(3,300kWh) Click 5 is cheaper.0 -

Just had a read of this thread out of interest, I am with Ebico currently - one tariff and no confusion... my bills have stayed low and I am happy. And I never get confused about tariffs, its easy to work out my bills. If needed I could pay quarterly with no extra charge too. (Unlike almost every other energy company)
I really think its high time the energy companies sorted their tariffs and billing system out so you do not have to be a total maths genius in order to find the cheapest company!
Would not touch BGas with the proverbial bargepole I am afraid!I always wanted to be a procrastinator, never got round to it...0 -
Thank you for your comments.
I had just changed to B Gas, Click 5, Electricity (3300pa) and Ebico Gas (8330pa). They came out cheapest on the comparison sites, better than dual fual. I do not pay by DD.
When changing providers, B Gas advised me to go on the Essentials Tariff because it was cheaper. When I saw this thread I phoned them to check, they then said that Click 5 was the cheapest. When B Gas phoned me again, they said the Essentials Tariff was cheapest for me, especially as the Essentials tariff would not be going up till next year.
I do usually work it out for myself but B Gas would not give me the Essentials Tariff price and I had not yet had a bill. But to be told one thing, then another, then another, it is confusing!!!!
I agree that they should make the billing system clearer but they should also be able to give proper advice to vulnerable people and those who maybe do not have a computer to check these things out... I may have to change providers again just for the fun of it!!!!0 -
Please be aware that both Click 5 & Ebico are pre-increase. Certainly Click 5 won't be long before it is increased and I'm sure Ebico won't be long now that they are aligned more closely to their supplier's price patterns, SSE. Don't get me wrong, they are both very good choices IMO (I'm currently on Click 5 Dual Fuel) but all I'm suggesting is not to fall into the trap of thinking your current DDs won't increase quite substantially sooner rather than later...Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Linni,
Click 5 is cheaper than essentials, and unless they realign essentials due to the new definition os 'social tariff'
It is designed to match the DD tariff (currently the pre increase DD tariff), but has although tier 1 is cheaper, you need to use more (90 0vs 500) to get to Tier 2.0
