We decided last year to put our home on the market, its a fairly large 3 bed semi but we needed just a little extra room for the kids. We had paid 12 years of a 25 year mortgage so thought we would start again and buy us a bigger detached. Unfortunately just as we put it up for sale the market here ground to a halt. Despite being the cheapest semi in the area it hasnt moved. We have had a dozen viewings but our hill of a garden and the house's unusual 3 storey design with steps to the front door have put many people off.
We had our lightbulb moment on sunday. Why the hell are we moving? The kids we wanted room for are nearly 11 and 16 so the toy stages have long gone. We are in a quiet area, we have lovely neighbours and I do love my home. What's the point on going into a lot more debt for a bigger house that actually we don't need? So, much to the annoyance of our EA we have withdrawn our house and are now looking to spend a little money on it for ourselves.
So join me in celebrating no more tidying up for waste of time viewers, no more stupid EA phone calls wanting me to pay buyers deposits and no more guilt trips from my neighbour who desperately wanted me to stay here

Good on you ... probably a wise choice. If you don't desperately need to move and like the area/schools etc.... then better the devil you know?? :T0

Superb! Well done to you :j :j :j
We took ours off the market after being on for ages. No more hostile viewers, no more restless nights of worry.
Since we took it off we've actually improved it more, new bathroom tiles, decorating, etc.
We're having the loft boarded/ladder/strip light on Staurday, all with money we'd have given to an EA :rotfl: Sorry MR. EA, but you earn more than me anyway!
Stay put, set a 'cosy by winter' target and enjoy!

We were in a position whereby we wanted to move a few years ago. We could'nt find anywhere we liked and we already lived in a nice area with nice schools etc, so we built onto the house ... best thing we ever did - is this a possibility for you if you need any more room??0

Congratulations - if my house doesn't sell soon I'm doing the same. I'd really like to move due to commute but if it isn't going to happen I'll pull the house off the market and get my books out of storage and celebrate not having to fret about who will like the house.Never let your sucesses go to your head and never let your failures go to your heart.:beer:0

Good on you. Enjoy your house which can become your home once again.0

Luckily, I married an architectural technician, so the ins and outs of extending etc have been fully explored. Unfortunately the unusual site the house occupies leaves it impossible to extend, and our loft isnt high enough nor has the right rafters.
I think the key is to maximise the storage, my DD's room is small, so we are employing a joiner to come and custom fit it. Build a bed, build storage and maximise the space etc She is excited anyway!
Maybe when the kids are gone we can buy ourselves a bungalow or something, but for the next few years Im going to enjoy my home again.0
