Bargainbabe, nice find! Can get gifts for both niece and nephew from this guy.

As for jockettuk, miserable git binning his gifts!! But mind you he's got a point, most of my "keepsakes" have gone the way of the bin.

    Thanks to all.
  • I've still got my 18th birthday watch which has an engraving on the back from my parents..so I wouldn't say that most gifts get binned...well not the useful ones anyway. I did bin the flutes, keys, etc though..

  • Enamelled painted coins showing the year of birth make lovely gifts.

For the girl you could get a 20p piece that has been enamelled and then made into a necklace.
For the boy, a bit more difficult, and probably less used, but you can get a 20p enamelled, and made into cuff links or tie clips.

you see these at lots of craft fairs or can be ordered over the internet.

they look nice, any links to sites that do this?
  • If you put "enamelled coins" into google you will get a good selection.

I purchased from them at a craft fair in East Anglia, and prices do seem extremely reasonable, seeing they come in gift boxes and include postage.

They do all post decimal coins as well as the old coins.

With all due respect they are about to become 18 year olds. I don't personally think that they would be over the moon with dolls and whiskey!

What are they into? What about an mp3 player a piece?

And with respect to your choice an MP3 player for an 18th or 21st birthday present. Is a none starter if I was buying for an 18th birthday day.

With dolls we are not talking about toy doll like a tiny tears but a proper china doll they can cost hunderds.

And normally giving for 18th is normally a piece that is suppose to last and something that they keep and not something that gets broken and is out of spec in a few weeks.

So a watch or a bracelet is normally the choice. But parents tend to give those.

And I still have the presents I was given for my 21st birthday. Which was an bracelet as well as an antique silver dressing table set.

What about a news paper from the day of there birth.

    Yours

    Calley
