shower board instead of tiles?

  • I've been working on a Kiers building site and one of the guys I work with needed some Facia board for a little job at home, when I asked he told me he was going to use it instead of tiles for his shower, now this stuff is ALOT cheaper than any of the purpose made products for showers, and it comes in various sizes, ofc it needs a little more work than your other more expensive stuff but heck it sure does do the same job and I've now replaced my own tiles with Facia board, the wife wasn't convinced at first until she saw the finished product.

Only downside is it comes in white only and in 5 mtr lengths, but at £20 per length it's a cheap alternative, and if done well it will still look as good as the more expensive stuff.

    Just thought I'd share =).

So you have sat at your PC and trawled all old posts and just stumbled upon one thats nearly three years old just to pass on that little nugget.

But you don't get it do you? It may well be their first post, but they have trawled all the posts over the last three years to find something that they can comment on.

It sounds too spammy to me. And as sure as god made little apples, should you ask them where to get the stuff they are promoting, I've no doubt that they will come up with a website that they have a direct involvement with.

Wouldn't fascia board scratch if you cleaned it regularly with bath cleaners? I would have thought it was the wrong product for the application. I've got the bath boards at the place I have a timeshare and it feels much harder than fascia board and has a different finish.

Well I was actually just browsing the forums and saw this, regardless of age it is useful. I can Highly recomend showerwalls as I have recently done my shower but they are very expensive at £90. each. Like the original poster I had seen them but could not find them.

As for your comment to the poster who told us about facia boards who did not leave a link etc you have probs put them off ever posting again. I personally find your comment rude and obnoxious, I suggest you go look in a mirror as I'm sure you will find a little nugget there.
It's people like you with comments like tha that ruin forums, so did you subcribe to this thread or were you just trawling old posts when you found it?

My builder recommended wall cladding instead of tiles when he did up my bathroom a couple of years back far better than tiles still looks clean and I have an aversion to cleaning!
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.
  • We had two tiled showers that both started leaking and eventually discovered that the water was coming through the grout in the tiles.

We replaced the tiles with Respatex boards and have since had no problem.

The boards are not hard to clean and still look as smart as when we
had them installed about five years ago.

I don't remember them as being expensive. We bought them from a
    plastics firm in Coventry.
