Hello,
I don't know if anyone else has experienced a similar problem, I've just noticed a nasty smell (a bit lilke rotten eggs!) coming from my washing machine (it only smells when the machines in use).
I've had the filter out and given it a good clean but its still doing it!
Any ideas as to whats causing it or how I can get rid of it would be great.
Thanks

Hi, two things to try really.
first you need to check how the outlet pipe is plumbed in, does it goes to the u bend under the sink? If so, undo it and make sure the u bend is clear of debris. Also make sure the outlet pipe is at the right height to prevent back filling from the sink.
Secondly, do a maintenance wash...longest hottest wash with bio powder...no clothes in. you may need to do this several times.0 -
Just had the same! Turned out the pipe (not the bendy hose attached to the washing maching but the rigid plastic one it goes into) was completely blocked with grey sludge!!! In fact OH reckoned another couple of uses and we could have had a major flood! As it was it had obviously been leaking for a while! So if I were you I'd check it out sooner rather than later!0

i have had a similar problem with my machine and over time you do get alot of sludge in the pipes.;)
i put the machine on a boil wash and add bleach and soda crystals and this helps to remove the sludge and smell without taking off the pipe;)
always worth adding soda crystals to each wash anyway as this softens the water so you don't need so much powder(good if you live in a hard water area like i do);)
hope this helps:D0 -
How much bleach and soda crystals do you use?
You shouldn't use bleach in a washing machine for this, instead make sure the maintenance wash is with a powder that contains bleach.
Theres a big section here on this problem here:

as well as a few other threads in this forum.
I had the same problem a few days ago, one maint' wash at 90oC, then another with twice normal heavy dose of soda and some distilled vinegar added while its filling. Worked a treat
Remember all the other points about making sure you leave the door open to let it dry etc0
