Hi and welcome to the forums!

I've recommend www.pinesolutions.co.uk here a few times already ..i can't recommend them enough in all respects from ordering, to their delivery service (not couriers - proper furniture moving company) and customer service - so i may as well recommend them again! I'm not on commission..i wish i were though as i'd probably be rich by now! You can get 5% off if you sign-up for quidco (at quidco.com) and click through to them that way - though i got a better deal by phoning as i wanted to customise their bedroom packages to suit us by upgrading their drawer units which i couldn't do online.

We have their Oxbury pine bedroom furniture that again i recommend...none of these flimsy hardboard backs - solid wood all the way round - and most of it is already built so no need to spend hours building it. The wardrobes came part assembled due to their size with the doors already hung, you just bolt the sides and fronts/backs together, screw down the top and bottom and stick in the shelfs. They can be built by one person if you lean it up against a wall for support as you (though the instructions do say 2 people!). Being a busy lady the pre-assembled bit will likely appeal to you! The only thing i regret is not also buying the matching dressing table to hide away all OH's makeup & toiletries etc (though i may get her it for christmas).

I've have also previously warned against Tesco Direct based on experience of ordering their very poor quality bedroom furniture, spending hours assembling one wardrobe and then waiting weeks for them to take it all back due to its very poor quality.

    Hope that helps you

    she did say "quality" :p
  • Hi,

We have just purchased new bedroom furniture from a place called the furniture barn. It is solid oak and really good quality but loads cheaper than other places we looked at. We went for the Brooklyn range. They are based in Market Harborough but deliver for £50 (per van not per item, i think). We are really pleased with the furniture and are looking to upgrade our dining room table and chairs.

aye and this is a money saving site.
and to be honest, for a bedroom, you dont really need "quality" furniture.
the true reality is, that unless you buying at the high end of the market, the rest of the domestic furniture is pretty much the same quality.

that's not what we found (though i'll agree to disagree if you like :) ) ...i wouldnt say the furniture we bought was the best high-end furniture - but a happy medium of quality and value for money ..so .more a comfortable middle of the market. Seriously we don't have money to waste and flatpack stuff although cheap can be false economy. The argos/homebase bedroom furniture that we were replacing was falling apart, the tesco stuff went back (Screwing 64 screws into the back of a wardrobe without pre-drilled holes with 2mm margin of error is very time consuming.) You get what you pay for at the end of the day...our new bedroom furniture should last us years as it is made well with dovetails joints etc. None of this crappy flat pack stuff! Yes it cost us much more than the tesco stuff that went back but we didn't have to build it (just unwrap the tons of packaging on it!). Considering we would probably have to keep replacing the tesco furniture if we had have ever finished building it it would be false economy in my view. Depends what you want from your furniture. If your happy to replace every few years then flat-pack may be fine.

Rather than buying furniture why not use freecycle or even some of the larger charity shops such as those run by the British Heart Foundation. I needed some bedroom furniture from my flat and bought a dressing table and a set of drawers in solid wood (not the flimsy flim flam stuff made by Argos and the like) for £40 in total (£20 each). The furniture was made in the 1920s and is really nice. So instead of buying new buy second hand.

Do you know if the furniture from here was made with dovetail joints in the draws etc. If so it could be worth investigating.

This is from their website, you can find it by clicking on an item and then clicking on "general information about product".

    Brooklyn
    General
A mainly solid oak range offering huge value (particularly at our prices! ) Includes dining, kitchen, bedroom and occasional furniture allowing great versatility.
    Wood
The majority of items are made from solid American or Russian white oak. Where veneered oak is included, the items is marked as such

    Construction
Dovetailed drawers. Mostly made assembled but tables, beds and wardrobes come apart for ease of delivery.

    Finish
    Tung Oiled

    What to expect
Oiled finishes enhance the natural colour of timber but do not disguise it so there will be some colour variation. Solid oak is a very expensive timber and so please do not expect perfection. There will be some small cracks caused while the timber dries and some filler will be used. Our display stock shows the standard quality. These features mean that every piece is individual.

    I didn't like the bit I've underlined.

    I'm considering:

A bit more expensive and has a lacquered finish. I've seen it in a showroom and it's very nice.
  • Anyone had any luck with Next furniture?
