All the leading manufacturers make good cameras. There is a saying that 99% of the cameras are better than 90% of the people that use them so do not get to hung up on this spec or that feature. You will have a great tool from Nikon, canon, Pentax, Sony & Samsung.

Get something used with a kit lens and use like that for 6-12 months. Then take stock - Are you still enjoying it, what limitations do you find - does it work for you in low light, sports etc.

Then invest based on your need, or sell on and buy the model whose features are now important to you.

I bought the Pentax K200D with £50 cashback (cheque arrived within 2 weeks). Absolutely love it!

One reason I went with this over Canon and Nikon was the fact that I can put rechargeable AA batteries in it.

Like most people have said all the models mentioned on this post will be far better than an amateur photographer!
