When Martin told us to cap I capped with Scottish Power - still waiting for the changeover - but today I see he says they have reduced their rates and extended a cap to October 2009.

So does that mean we should all madly swop again?

    where does it say this?
  • Just found it here;

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/tips/27-08-2008/

New Top Capped Tariff: Bizarrely Scottish Power’s cut the rate of its market-leading cap, letting you lock-in and forgo price rises until Oct 2009. As even more hikes in Jan are possible, capping at this lower rate can work out best for those needing financial security.
  • I've just phoned them and they dont know anything about this fixed price, and it doesnt say anything on there website.

    -Tom
  • I just called them too, and they told me that they have no fixed deals or any planned at the moment.

He's confused a 'fixed' deal with this, which is not fixed:
"Benefits of our Discounted Energy October 2009 Offer
By choosing our Discounted Energy October 2009 Offer you will enjoy the following benefits:

    • Save 3% against our standard monthly Direct Debit electricity prices until October 2009.
    #
    • Save 3% against our standard monthly Direct Debit gas prices until October 2009.

    #
Additional discounts applicable for customers who choose our Discounted Energy Offer are:
    • Gas & Electricity Offer annual discount

    * of up to £16.80 (inc. VAT)
    • Online Energy Service annual discount

    * * of £5.25 (inc. VAT) for gas and £10.50 (inc. VAT)
    for electricity"
So you can save 3% off their standard prices until Oct 2009 but they could put their standard prices up at any time!!!

Not sure who 'he' is that you're referring to, it's not hethmar, it was included in the official MSE email yesterday and on the link I posted above.

  • I think he Is MSE Martin, the email stated that Scottish are offering a fixed until 2009 and they are not.
