I used Mitchum for many years - finding the roll-on much more effective than the stick - but stopped using it after I got a painful rash under my arms whilst on holiday last year. I think the difference was that I was having two showers a day, so applying deodorant twice a day too... Mitchum overload! Interestingly, I noticed that someone else in this thread said much the same thing. It's strange, though, because I always have two showers whilst on holiday, yet hadn't had a problem before.
I believe Mitchum's effectiveness is due to the aluminium content which (like so many things) has been linked to an increased risk of breast cancer? Certainly it's strong stuff, so should be used with caution. I've now switched to a natural salt-based deodorant called Salt Of The Earth, but - unlike Mitchum - it's no good at controlling perspiration.
EDIT: For your info, here's a link to a news article about the deodorant/cancer link.0 -

EDIT: For your info, here's a link to a news article about the deodorant/cancer link.BUT I do have double standards as I am actually using Mitchum at the moment (:o ), because I do sweat a lot in my job, lugging a harp around everywhere and often wearing clothing that's not very breathable, and the folks on this thread were praising it so much!!
Anyhow, another product I have used in the past which I have found very effective is, believe it or not, is my hubbie's Old Spice High Endurance Gel Deodorant! Note, this is a deodorant, not an anti-perspirant, so it will not stop you sweating. There is no mention of aluminium in the ingredients. HOWEVER, despite it not being an anti-perspirant, I have found that at the end of the day when I've been sweating a lot, I don't smell whiffy at all! (At least I don't think so.) Despite it being a men's deodorant and not particularly feminine, I will probably go back to it for those days when I need something that's going to work- as I must admit I'm a bit worried about using a powerful anti-perspirant like Mitchum.0 -
