Internet in students halls?

Hi
My sons are going to Oxford Brookes and Bristol Universities soon, and i was wondering about internet connection. Do they have a socket in the room they can plug an ethernet cable into to get online in their room?
I have just bought them laptops, and was wondering about this.

Also, neither of them has heard where they'll be living yet- is this normal?

Thanks!

Some have sockets and some are wireless from what I can gather. They are all wireless at my uni. My friends son had to get a wire to plug his in though.

Don't know if it is normal not to know yet though, sorry. Was it their first choice, or insurance one?

Once you do know, you should either be told about the internet access, or can look it up in the website.

Do all of the rooms have it? If so, they may all be the same anyway, in which case you can either check online or ring up and ask.

    it depends on the halls

we had a wire to plug in and then had to pay a connection charge of about £130 for the year.

i had internet instead of tv!!

Your best bet is to contact the accomodation offices of those universities or look at their respective websites. Contact numbers are on both of these links.

    For Bristol:

I'm starting at Warwick this year, and we don't find out what accommodation we've got until some time in September.. it should say somewhere on the university websites when they'll let you know.

Yeah this exactly how mine was, good o have Unis that help.
But then my mate, at a different Uni, was on wireless which meant he had to get an adapter for his computer and the internet kept getting disconnected!!

  • My sis just graduated from Ox Brookes and she had an ethernet point, a socket. Think it was very cheap too!
