Yes you can (we've just done the same) but you will become responsible for the credit card debt.

I've put the credit card that we xferred the balance to away in the safe to ensure I don't use it at all during the life of the 0% deal, because if you put purchases onto that card, any money you pay off goes against the lowest interest debt first i.e. the balance xfer you've done from your OH's card.
  • Hi DebtBGone, your cc would need to have a credit limit of at least £3200, as most banks will only allow you to transfer up to 95% of your credit limit.

I agree with Pollycat - once you've done the transfer, DO NOT use the card again for anything at all. Just make sure you keep up the monthly repayments on time, set up a direct debit to handle the minimum payments, anything else you pay will be over and above what's required.

And remember your OH is now forever in your debt - perhaps a lifetime of washing dishes is in order?!
