I don't think the milegae sounds suspicious at all. Yes it is good, but at 6 years old, nearly 10,000 miles a year can be believable surely.

  • I bought a car in may 2008 with warranty. Two weeks later I had a problem with the sunroof and called the warranty company, who in turn referred me to a local garage. I took the car in for inspection, and the technician advised a whole new sunroof mechanism. There was no further communication between me and the warranty company as I was confident I was in the capable care of their repairer. I received a call a week later from the garage saying the warranty company had authorized the work to commence and he would have to order the sunroof which would take about three months. I patiently waited and on 15th August he called me to say he had received the sunroof and booked my car in for work to commence on the 30th. The car has been with them since then and last week I received a call from the garage saying the Warranty company had inspected the finished job and decided not to pay for it. What are my rights in this matter? I can't afford to pay for the repairs done myself.
  • Your issue with the Golf camshaft wearing is well known. Lots of details on honestjohns.co.uk, if the wrong non VW spec oil is used, the camshaft wears out. VW oils have Lithium in to prevent wear, but damage is down to the seller not you, back to the dealer & check the service book, good luck. This affects all PD engines, but especially the 130 & 150 1.9 units. Even topping up with non VW 5.05X oils is enough to damage the camshaft.

On what grounds are they rejetcing the claim? If they authorized the claim they have to pay.

Well after a very long drawn out process, I eventually came to a result! It turned out that it wasn't the Camshaft that had caused the problem, it was a 'catastrophic mechanical failure' within the engine. As found by an independent engineer. To cut a very long story short, the car needed a replacement engine, turbo charger, injectors...you name it. The warranty company finally backed down and accepted the claim after sending out their own assessor who came to the same conclusion as the one I had got to do a report. So I got my car back last week, 3 months after it broke down and didn't have to pay the bill.....some £4,000-£5,000. Not an easy battle but am glad it is sorted finally!
