Make a complaint about the company's policies to their local trading standards. You can do so online through http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk just put the company's postcode in and email them with a link or copy in the terms and conditions they sent you.
The terms and conditions on their site do not give the same ridiculous policies that I was told about in an email. Should I just send a copy of the email instead?0 -
Slightly off topic I know but where royal mail is concerned once a letter package parcel etc has been put through the postbox/post office it is effectively Royal Mail Property hence the reason why your postie will not (or should not) remove an incorrectly posted item from the post box and give it back to you.
I believe the correct procedure is to leave a card and take it back to the depot. It is then up to you to call them and arrange collection/redelivery. A second delivery attempt is usually made before returning the parcel to the sender. Before anyone shouts at meYES I know that this it not what happens in reality.
I think therefore that your issue should be with the courier company, not your neighbour or the supplier. As to whether how successful you would be in any complaint, i;ve no idea.
Good luck.
mail in transit technically belongs to the queen
as for leaving items with neighbours

"As a buyer I would say, give us a box to put instructions for the courier on the order form, and make sure couriers follow those instructions.[/quote]

Hi everyone, I know Lakeland have a box where you can put any special info about delivery in it, which is great, and I agree with others who have mentioned this, that if all companies had this in place, then I believe this would help customers who place orders. There will always be unscrupulous people about sadly who take other people's goods and also there will always be delivery drivers who can't be bothered, yet others who will do the job properly and care about how the job is done, as in all jobs. It must be a real headache for those who this happens to.Do a little kindness every day.;)0

Can you tell us who the courier company was? I only ask as there are so many out there and some better than others....
My DH is actually a courier (and does it because he enjoys it not because he's incompetent and unable to do anything else). They have a '3 strikes' policy - unless they are specifically instructed that they are permitted to leave with a neighbour or in a safe place on the property, they must 'card leave' the item and return it to the depot. It will then be redelivered a further 2 times using the same process, before being returned to the sender.
Not much use for you I'm afraid as it's from the other perspective where the drivers are unable to leave with neighbours, in most cases people will call the depot with a request for it to be left somewhere/with someone specific at the next delivery......
