neighbour has subwoofer in garage...

Options
My neighbour is a nice chap but I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of him. Unfortunately he recently put a stereo in his garage including a subwoofer which I think was from his old living room surround sound system. Even though the sound isn't that loud he seems to have the subwoofer on full whack and in my own house even with the windows all closed all I can hear is the muffled rumble of the bass, not just rhythmic music bass but even speech.

I can't overstate how much it's really spoiling my life. I dread weekends/evenings which are sunny as I know he's likely to be working outside so will have the stereo on in the garage. I asked him once to turn it down and he said it was on as low as it'll go. If he got rid of the subwoofer it would probably be fine as I'd be able to close the windows and I wouldn't hear anything.

By the way I hate confrontation i.e. I'm a coward!

What can I do? This is really upsetting me, I now stay at work and then go out and avoid being home during daylight hours and this is really depressing me. It seems unfair as I never have music on outside my house and neither does anyone else. I think perhaps he doesn't realise that not everyone wants to listen to his radio station of choice.
Trying hard to be a good moneysaver.

ok heres what i would do, next time you see him to speak, just say soneone knocked on YOUR door to ask if YOU could turn the base down on your stereo. But it seems it was HIM who was making the noise, and you wondered if they had knocked on his door. and then say, well i can hear it in my house, and i guess if others can hear it then wouldnt it be awful if they reported him to the authorities.....

of course you could always report it if you have other neighbours who could hear it... the above is maybe just a way to get chatting about it...

Talk to him calmly.Don't be afraid .Tell him how it is affecting you.
Bring him to your house and prove to him how loud it is.
I once had a similar problem but i had to go through the council to get it sorted.

thing is with tackling him direct he may up the anti, doing it in a roundabout way initially gives you the chance to ease into the subject without confrontation....IMO
