A knock at the door

Hi

I am having a bit of a panic about something and i wondered if any one can help.

I have had a person call at my house yesterday when i was out at work. My wife answered the door and he's asked if i was in. She said no and wondered if she could help, he said no he had to speak to me to hand me some papers.

He asked for Tony instead of my full name Anthony.

I have some debts that i'm sorting out and in Constance contact with my creditor's. So i don't think its from them.

Anyone have any idea's, or had this happen to them. Perhaps i'm thinking the worst, you never know it might be something nice!!! Yeah right

  • Impossible to tell, one possibility is that if any of your creditors has instigated a court action the person in question could be a process server working on behalf of the court.

Most DCA’s ( if they do have field collectors) wouldn’t be too fussed who they spoke to or gave you paperwork to ,which makes it seem more like a process server than anything else.

Let us know how you get on !
 It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them
  • I'm stressing a bit about it, i have rang everyone today that i owe money to they are all fine execpt the council tax who has said that a liability order has been sent to me. I'm not to worried about the council tax because i'm going to pay a large amount to them at the end of the month.

Does anyone know if they send them in the post or send someone round to give them to you?
  • Payment of council tax certainly needs to be taken seriously.
Do the council know that they well get a payment at the end of the month?
...............................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym
  • They do now, i'll told them yesterday. I owe £1166, i'm going to pay them £400 at the end of them month then £200 a month until march.

They told me yesterday that they have issued a liability order, will they send it in the post or send someone round to give it to me in person.

Thanks for all you help, i'm on the road to sort out all my debts, will be debt free in 8 months time. I cant wait !!

Is a liability order the same as a court date? If so, they send it in the post.

I would have thought it would be delivered by hand. This is what I found in relation to one

"A Liability Order is issued to the council by the Magistrates Court following a court hearing and will detail who is responsible for the debt, how much it is, what costs have been awarded and the date and place of the hearing.

A Liability Order gives the council the power to request information from you to enable collection of the debt. You should complete and return this request for information as soon as possible. Failure to complete and return the document can lead to prosecution in a Magistrates Court and a fine being imposed.

Once the request for information has been received by the Council, it can decide whether to attach your earnings (i.e. deduct money from your wages), deduct money from certain benefits, refer your debt to bailiffs, commence insolvency proceedings, seek a charge over your property or seek committal to prison."

It would be pretty imperative to prove service to be able to take matters further. A process server would use the pally approach to get you off guard so this is highly likely to have been in relation to this.
  • good luck
  • So do they post these out or send someone round to give them to you in person
