Opinions on HP laptops please.

Options
I have a HP Compaq 6720s. Only owned it (from new) for approx 5 months. It's had min to moderate usage, and already the left mouse button covering has started to deteriorate. I'm not impressed with this at all, especially since I've owned a Sony VA10 desktop for a number of years and there has been no problems.

Any opinions on HP computer products would be interesting. Thanks :)

I use a HP Compaq nx9030 laptop as a work machine (and for surfing the web at home!). Had it for 3 years and the only bit of wear is on the wrist rests. However, I don't use the mouse buttons - I prefer to use the touchpad for tapping as the mouse buttons.

I've actually got a two HP machines just now. I'm an advocate of building your own, and I still have my home-build gaming box, but the two HP machines were too cheap to pass up.

One's a Proliant server, and it was ludicrously cheap, pretty powerful and near silent, which was the main thing. It's stupidly well made. A good quality box all round. Even the bundled keyboard's nice and heavy and feels solid.

The other's a DV6525 laptop. It's not as solid feeling as I'd like. The hinge I'm not 100% confident in. The PSU heats up to an alarming temperature. I'm blinded when watching films in bed at night by its bewildering number of blue LEDs. Evil things, blue LEDs. They mess your eyes up, and they also reflect off the sodding screen and can be distracting as hell, and YOU CAN'T TURN THEM OFF. There are something like 18 LEDs spread out across the laptop. It's insane.

It looks lovely though, apart from the blue LED eye strain.

Odd that you mention the mouse button though. Mine feel like there's a little too much travel in them. I like microswitches that have about 1mm movement in them. The laptop's mouse buttons move much more than that. I hate trackpads anyway, so use a proper mouse when possible.

It's not a particularly expensive laptop though, and I got it for a song so I can't really moan.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

Yeah, I mainly use the touchpad also. I got it for my Uni studies & it's hardly been used as I have been ill and haven't been able to attend Uni, even to the point where I'm deferring now till next May.
Even so, the buttons should still be able to handle being used. That is there purpose after all.

I wouldn't mind either had I had the laptop a lot longer than I have. I was intending to buy a regular mouse, but never got round to it. However, shouldn't really need to.
