Which colour for bedroom?

Hello
bit unsure as to what to do, i know its a personal choice but thought i'd get some opinons on here anyway. Our house is decorated in white a a soft beige/brown downstairs. One of our bedrooms is decorated white, I wanted to continue the same colour scheme throughout the house but my husband wants us to paint one of the rooms magnolia.
I don't like the colour, but we have coated the walls twice in this before we decide what to do.
Might sound silly but will having odd colours look silly? as the rest of the house is in the other colour scheme.
Thanks in advance.

I don't think it would look silly as people have different colours in different rooms all the time. I dont like Magnolia either, but you could always go for a colour in between. We've just painted our house Almond White by Dulux which is in between magnolia and white. Looks really good i think. There are lots of other colours out there that are in between white and magnolia that might look nice.0

White. brown. beige. magnolia. That is definately a colour scheme. It's hardly going to look silly if one room is magnolia instead of white - there isn't that much difference and you can have far more definition than that between rooms!
There's some idea of keeping continuity running, but that could be carpet colour rather than wall colour.
White and magnolia really aren't far enough apart to start the neighbours gossiping about you :rolleyes:Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Be adventurous paint your bedroom in a really outlandish colour.
It's your home your rooms can be different colours.
The only homes I know where walls are the same colour all the way through, including the bathrooms, are new build properties or properties that have been done up to sell.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0 -
I'm sat in our spare room which we painted in Ivory (dulux matt) .. works well with the white skirtings, coving and ceiling and chocolate curtains, chocolate lampshade beech/chocolate futon, beech curtain pole and beech-effect office furniture. Would take a photo if i wasnt so ashamed of all the junk in the room! I think it looks a bit classier than magnolia it also has a bit more warmth to it.
If you were doing up to sell then i wouldn't go for outlandish colours (they do put some people off that can't see the wood for the trees) and stick to neutral colours.
With neutral/natural colours you can add some colour with things like curtains and the bed linen and carpet.

im crazy! The orginal post in this thread has a very very slim chance of being about money saving. The post is more than likely to ask a question that google could answer better than any of us.0 -
Depends on what you want, do you want to carry on with a light/natural colour scheme through the whole house, or do you want strong colours in your bedroom?
Just a thought, but in between working as a P&D, I am one of those tradespeople who will do work in thier own home lol.
Admittidly I cheat, as I tend to use colours that clients have chosen, and when I have painted thier room, I tend to think, Mmmmm, I like that, so I will use the same colour in my home.
I have gone for Naturals through most of the house, still have 2 beds to do, but they will have to wait.
I am a Dulux gal through and through, but could not find a nice cream in the Dulux range, as some are too yellow, or have pink hues, or too beigey, but found the most gorgeous cream in 'Crown', called 'Mimosa', it comes in the solo range, but I always do more coats, and water down paint anyway for a better finish.
But must admit the 'Mimosa is a lovely cream, there is no point in sending you a pic, as you wont see the true colour on the screen.
But you could have different shades of natuals going through the whole house that would sort of blend.
Also, I have changed all the curtains, and every room has plain cream curtains, and the cream curtains go with any colour room and carpets, or wooden flooring.
The rooms that are in the natural colours do look more lighter, fresher, and cleaner, I dont think I would ever go back to strong colours, not in lounge/dining room/bed or HSL anyway.:D0 -
yellow kitchen
im crazy!
Not that crazy lol, I have a strong red in my kitchen, I have very pale vanilla cream shiny kitchen units, and its very difficult to get a colour to compliment it, so I have gone for 'Dulux Ancient earth', I love it so much I have replainted the kitchen 3 times in the last 5 years, and gone with the same red.
But, that is the only room I would go bold, still have 2 bed to do, but theres no hurry, as I quite like the bold colours in them, but will have to change them sometime, as everywhere is is light colours.0 -
thanks for the replies! we have so far left it as magnolia as that was going to be our base coat until we decided the colour. I want the neutral colour scheme all the way through but not keen on magnolia, but will probably experiment with curtains and bed linen as hubby likes magnolia!0

In 4 of our rooms we have managed different colour schemes whilst using 3 colours, they all use 1 or mainly 2 of each colour and blend in really well as you go room to room the only exeptions are the 3 kids rooms shades of pink and blues.0
