can i patch my roof with felt myself??

My roof is leaking a bit, its a flat roof so water tends to lie on it, ive had a look and i think it just needs patching a bit, can i do it myself and how do i do it?

  • Not sure if the patch kits are any good or not. My old mans a roofer and has a roofers blow torch and does these all the time and I've done a bit too. Depending on the size/length of felt strip it might pay to take it off and replace the whole strip - especially if it is an area where water tends to sit during the wet season. I would imagine that the patch, if done properly and with due care would be fine but I urge you to make sure that the wood underneath and surrounding the leak is dry and not sodden or rotting or else a few years down the line you might get a nasty suprise when the roof caves in. I hope this helps.
