If you are an existing Barclay's customer and can login to apply for this then is the account opened for you immediately?

I ask because I'd like to apply to open one on Friday of this week, with an opening deposit, then slip in the first 'standing order' payment for 1st September on Monday [a faster payment from a different bank] but if they take a few days to process even an online application that means I may have to apply sooner (eg tomorrow)

I opened one online recently and whilst I cannot remember exactly how long it took it certainly was't instantaneous.

I would say it was days, rather than hours or weeks when the account appeared online.

Just to answer my own query; I went into my branch of Barclays today and the account was both opened there and then as well as an opening deposit being taken from me (the standing order was also set up from my Barclays account)

So all-round good service and no unexpected surprises with this particular account...
