Could someone please advise on whether to opt for a free or paid survey in relation to timber and damp assessments?
I have discovered some evidence of woodworm infestation (and possible damp problems) in my mid terrace property.
I've had two seperate specialists provide me with a 'free' quotation (~£1000 was the cheapest to date). However I've just come across another company who approach things a little differently in that theie quotation is not free. Instead they do a 'condensed' damp/timber survey for ~350 (that strikes me as a lot!)
It could be argued that this alternative company are more likely to provide an assessment that is a truer reflection of the situation as opposed to other companies that may hide the cost of a 'free' quote in the quotation itself.
It would be very valuable to learn what other people's experiences have been.
Thanks in advance

There's no such thing as a 'free quote'. Someone always ends up paying for it.
You're having a survey done, this is not a quote.

A Damp and Rot firm might charge £40 to do a survey, produce a report and give you a quote included in that.
One free estimate fella I had in told me I needed woodworm treatment in several rooms and it was a big price estimate. Another free fella just quoted me in writing for work that needed doing replacing decayed wood.
I recommend you read up on the internet on what you want remedying. No longer half of Optimisticpair
