PC Error Message - help anyone?

Each time I log on to my home pc, I am presented with mm_tray.exe cannot find MFC71U.DLL put in installation disc.

I am worried that I may, when 'cleaning' my pc have inadvertently deleted this - but it doesn't ring any bells. To my knowledge I don't have a disc with this on it.

Can anyone 'in plain english' explain what it is, why this may have happened and how I go about repairing the problem.

I have gone on the web for free tools for the pc to repair such problems but when it came to the crunch - it wasn't free at all and I'm not sure I trust the sites.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

mm_tray.exe probably belongs to MusicMatch Jukebox. If that is supposed to be installed, then you could try reinstalling (or uninstalling) it. Otherwise, to get rid of the error you could select Start -> Run -> type "msconfig" -> select the startup tab and locate and uncheck anything 'musicmatch' related to stop it from loading at startup.
  • mm_tray.exe is the MusicMatch Jukebox Traybar. If you're using this ten maybe a reinstall will put back the file that is missing. If it's been removed without uninstall then installing it again then uninstalling via windows should solve the problem.

The other option that springs to mind is seeing if you can switch the traybar off via MusicMatch Jukebox settings.

  • Many thanks to you all for your help. I haven't been able to sort the problem out yet but am at least aware of what it is and think I can do this now.
