current account, mortgage and nothing else

for one reason or another , ever since ive worked my finances have always been a little untidy. for example having credit cards, more than one current account, as well as the mortgage. now i feel its time to get on top of it and know where i am financially by looking in just one place.

i've cleared all the credit cards and just have 2 current accounts. i opened an extra one a while back as i thought i'd use it for business other than my full time job, ebay etc. however i dont really do this anymore. so i'm going to close the 2nd account.

so is there anyone else here who got fed up with complicated finances and just resorted back to a current account only? i think it will be nice to have everything going in and out of the same place, and only having one balance to check.

About 5 years ago I stopped using credit cards and just used my current account for all purposes. However, when my debit card details were used fraudulently I had all the money in my account removed and was taken overdrawn and my direct debits were all returned unpaid. NatWest took months to get the money back into my account and I was left having to borrow money from friends and family until everything was put back to normal. Now I never used debit cards (not even for the hole in the wall) and purchase all items with a credit card that I pay in full every month. I think relying on just a current account/debit card is too risky.

It depends a bit on your lifestyle but for various reasons like lost cards, temporally rejected cards, eaten up cards, car hire, unexpected expenses, fraud, travel abroad, I think you need two current a/c so two debit cards (Nationwide for no foreign exchange fees) and two credit cards.
Well, being very cautious person I have three of each ..........
