This link http://europa.eu.int/comm/taxation_customs/dds/en/tarhome.htm wiill alow you to find the Duty Rate percentage for any product from any country. But remember, 17.5% VAT will always get added to the Landed Cost - you Invoiced Price plus all the Transport & Insurance to the UK Port.
This link http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/downloadFile?contentID=HMCE_PROD_008051 tells you how to get a "PSEUDO TURN" substitute VAT Number if you are not VAT Registered.
If you plan to import regularly, it's well worth doing the paperwork - future transactions will be easier.
If you are doing a one-off transaction, I heard there are some agents that specialise in USA imports & do it all for you - any other MoneySavingExperts know who they are?0
