Paypal - item not delivered - where to claim

(Apologies if this thread appears twice, I typed it in once but it seems to have vanished into cyberspace).
I recently bought an item from a UK online shop. (The seller also had an Ebay shop with 100% positive feeback for several hundred items). I paid with Paypal. I got an immediate acknowledgement that my item was being processed and would be on its way shortly. Nothing turned up. I chased. No response to emails. No response to messages left on their answerphone (although it is still working). In fact no communication at all. I looked again at Ebay the other day and since I bought my item the feedback has stopped and the Ebay shop has been closed.
I therefore suspect it must have gone out of business shortly after I purchased my item. I have raised a dispute with Paypal but they say they only act as the intermediary with the seller and only reimburse if the seller has money in their Paypal account so I do not hold out much hope.
My Paypal account is linked to my Barclaycard. Would I be better off claiming from Barclaycard and alerting them. I am concerned that other unsuspecting punters are being ripped off. (Their website shop is still online and taking orders.)

How much was the purchase?
If the seller had 100% feedback then you may have PayPal purchase protection - http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/tp/paypal-protection.html
I'd follow this procedure through0 -
File a dispute via Paypal. I had a similar problem a few months ago for about £50 and was rather sceptical about the chances of getting anything refunded. I went through the motions, escalated to a claim when I started to see other feedback claiming others had not recieved their goods and within a couple of weeks without a response from the seller, I had the money refunded into my account.
I'm fairly certain that most credit cards exclude paypal purchases from their cover.0 -
I had a similar situation arise and filed a dispute with Paypal and my money was refunded in 2 days! :beer:0

Just to make it clear, I did not buy this item on Ebay I bought it direct from an online shop on the web. But I checked out the seller, at the time I bought it, and they also had an Ebay shop which had lots of transactions and 100% positive feedback. Shortly after I ordered and paid for my item, the Ebay shop and feedback disappeared. That is why I think it has gone under.
I have lodged a dispute with Paypal but apparently it takes a month before they escalate it beyond emailing the seller to ask what is happening.
The sum was not enormous £40 but I am also concerned that they are still running their shop on line where payment options seem to be Paypal and Nochex . Does Paypal take any action in such circumstances? Also as my Paypal account is linked to my Barclaycard, I wondered if I should alert Barclaycard as well as they may be trading fraudulently.0
