Powerplaydirect 0870 number

After a claim on my Halifax GIS, they have passed me to a third party, Powerplaydirect to handle replacing the consumer goods. However this company has a premium rate 0870 number as their customer service number. I regard this as poor service on Halifax's part.

The alternative "geographical" number on SayNoTo0870 seems to be permanently engaged.

Powerplaydirect don't seem to ring me to tell me what is going on. I wonder why?!

Maybe I should claim the phone bills too?

  • claim them under which peril exactly?

just call them, don't be stingy and delay your claim. how is it poor service? do you think phone lines are free?
  • "peril", is that jargon?

The premium rate fone lines are a hidden cost which I couldn't factor in when choosing the insurance.

0870 numbers are a scam. There's no reason for them other than to take money out of customers' pockets.

When the company I previously worked for introduced them, the directors took great pride in this new way of increasing revenue. I took great pride in making sure that my customers knew the number on which they could contact me at no extra cost to them.

a peril is a single event or occourance that you are insured against, ie Accidental Damage, Flood, Fire etc.

The formal complaint process is detailed in your policy booklet. If you are unhappy with the service ( i.e no one calling you to tell you what is going on) invoke a formal complaint as it is your consumer right to do so.

You may care to obtain an estimate yourself for the consumer goods lost/ damaged and send that to Halifax requesting a cheque to enable you to replace your consumer goods.

Unfortunately the costs of making a claim ( i.e phone bills) are not usually covered, but you can always ask!

Thanks for the complaint info. This may fall into the 'life is too short" category though ;)

We eventually received a couple of "vouchers" from PowerplayDirect. No information accompanied them, but they did have a swipe card with, you guessed it, another 0870 number for registering the card. In order to do this we had to give them a claim number. Not the claim number we were given by Halifax insurance, but a different one powerplaydirect had given us over the phone. Why have one claim number when you can have two?! The vouchers tied us to purchase from Argos.

The whole process is phone based, so the 0870 numbers are an effective tax.

They may be a good compant to work for, but they are obviously NOT a good company from the customers point of view!

PS I don't care where or how they make profit, I insure my property against loss or damage, I do not agree to pay a third party company like these.
