    SATA or IDE?
Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.

External is quoted in OP, so either USB or Firewire (or less likely SATA)...

Have look at WD MyBooks from Amazon and other brands of External drive.

Not really relevant when choosing an external HDD.

Specifications to consider for external disks is the connection type. Normally you'll choose, in order of speed, from USB2 or FireWire400 or FireWire800. Check out what connection options you have on your computer you're connecting it to to decide which would be suitable.

I would recommend (in order of preference) Lacie or Western Digital. From there just choose your storage size based on how much you want to spend.
  • Thanks guys , My PC is a few years old now ( advent 3111 ) so it would have to be a USB connection...... i think?

Oops. Totally missed that! Internal probably cheaper though...
