IKEA and our Kitchen disasters

We order a new kicthen from Ikea and also went with them for the fitting.
We had ALOT of building work to be done including a wall being removed/floor levelled etc so were delighted that Ikea had given us a one stop shop.
We are now almost 6 weeks past the date the work started and below is a list of some of the issues weve experienced.
(1) A Skip was due to be delivered but was not and as a result all of the rubble/wood/metal etc was dumped on our driveway. The driveway is still a mess with nails/wood/screws etc on it and has not been made good (or even safe to park on).
(2) A tonnef sharp sand was delivered to allow the floor to be levelled. Only approximately half of this sand was used and the rest is still sitting in the driveway. I have had to move this myself into bags to allow me to get one car on the double driveway.
(3) The removal of the wall has caused some movement in the upstairs rooms. As a result a shower and bath have moved, causing them to leak and the new ceiling plaster in the kitchen is still wet.
(4) The new kitchen was installed on wet walls. We now have mould growing in every single cupboard and cabinet. The builders when they returned on 24/08/08 wiped this away from the inside however if it returns then we shall be looking for all of the affected areas to be replaced.
(5) We changed our order a number of weeks before taking delivery of the kitchen and when it arrived it was wrong. As a result we have had to wait for the correct parts to be delivered and installed.
(6) The job was started on xxxxx and the builders worked on it for two weeks before going on a 3 week holiday. When they returned they were booked on other jobs and did not return to finish the work until Sunday 24th August.
(7) We ordered stainless steel splashbacks but were only informed that these would not be available when the delivery was checked and we called Ikea.
(8) The warmer drawers were not delivered as part of the original delivery and we have had to wait 5 weeks to have them installed.
(9) The builders installed white plug / light and appliance sockets when we originally requested stainless steel – we have had to replace these at our own cost.
(10) When the sink was fitted there was a gap in the worktop at the back, running the length of the sink and is approximately 8cm deep – this has had to be filled with a separate piece of worktop.
(11) When the survey was carried out we requested that our electric meter was boxed in – this was never taken into account so again another separate piece of worktop has had to be installed.
(12) During the original install we were without hot water in the house for approximately 11 days – the only hot water being in an electric shower upstairs.
(13) The plasterwork has not been finished as we are still without window ledges on two windows. I will be completing this work myself.
My biggest concern at the moment is that the kitchen was fitted on walls where the new plaster wasnt dry and we have mould in EVERY Cupboard and drawer - its disgusting.
Apologies about the multiple fonts - having PC troubles today !!
We are putting together a letter of complaint to Ikea but i do not hold out much hope that we will get anywhere at all.

how can you blame Ikea for what seems to be your builders fault.
as for the parts not delivered, you changed the order a bit late to expect it to be delivered at the same time.0 -
I disagree with Jules, if Ikea sold you this as a 'one stop shop' and you paid Ikea directly your contract is with Ikea and as such I would right them a nice long letter and visit citizens advice.. It's imho not acceptable and certainly not what I would expect after paying for a new kitchen!
You will probably need to give them the opportunity to put it right, at least the things that can be like the fixtures & fittings.
I would be pushing for at least a partial refund, and make sure you keep any receipts for expenses you have incurred due to them not keeping to your specifications - they will reimburse these.
Best of luck muirri, please keep us posted.

Thanks folks.
Our amendments to the order were made approx 4 weeks before we took delivery of the kit and we were told by customer service that all changes were fine.
They were also supposed to send us a full list of all parts etc but that never arrived.
The builders were contracted through ikea (infact it was them who came to the house to measure up before the worktop lengths etc were confirmed) and while working on the kitchen any updates on delivery of the missing parts came from Ikea customer service to the builders to us.
One plus point is that so far the mould hasnt come back yet - but the walls are almost dry !!!0
