Most of Tower Hamlets is like Beirut. However there are some extremely gentrified and expensive bits around the river. E.g., Limehouse, Docklands, etc.. You could also try Spitalfields.

    :rotfl:

how long did you live there for?! you must have lived in shadwell surely

Its not like beirut- certainly not by london terms!!!! I would merrily walk the streets after dark, and there are very few places I wouldnt feel confident at say 2am?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Snaresbrook crown court is a gorgous building, me & OH wanted to get married there, till we found out what it was :D and realised we couldnt!

I love it too. I always grabbed Snaresbrook files if my sols had any in. :o There are an enthusiastic group of older people who go daily to watch the court proceedings(in a kind of stocks and old vegetables sort of way) who made me giggle and who always try and pumps sol's clerks for details with the promise of a cup of tea. I even like the annexe courts there, and I'm probably the only person who eer thought that! But the highlight of my day was if I had a barrister who I was not chums with, slipping away at lunch for a walk trying to dodge the agressive fowls!

... I once saw a patient injecting themselves with *something* on th ehospital steps. :(

A friends friend whom I've met quite a few times would pull out his syringe and in the past 'shoot himself up' in the toilets. Think he got a bit of abuse for doing this. Now apparently he 'shoots up' in public and no one says anything - life is not always easy for a diabetic and people tend to think the worst.

funny, my blt is next door to se11 and work in se1. Never had any trouble. My friend in Tower Hamlets and his car tire (could have been the bumper) was set on fire whilst standing outside his house. 2 summers ago some kids on bikes leaned through the open drivers window into his car while he was stood at the traffic lights and grabbed his car keys
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)

I've lived in the area since I was 8 (22 yrs in all) and, as such, know the area very well. I also work for Douglas Allen, an Estate Agency with quite a strong presence in Poplar.
We've just sold a 3 bed maisonette in Poplar (2nd & 3rd floor) for £200k, which I think is quite cheap, even for the current mkt. I'd say £230-235k for a 4 bed is fair (at the moment).
Send me your number if you want some impartial advice.
    Rakesh.

PS. Also, check that there aren't major works due on the building. If there are, you should negotiate further on price.
