Laptop disaster!!!

Options
Hi everyone got a bit of a problem im hoping you might be able to help me with. We've had a laptop for about 3 months running windows vista. Its had very little use apart from occasional internet use and hubbys football managing game. I had it on this morning browsing the internet, shut it down in the usual way, everything was fine.

Came home this eveing, switched it on... and nothing!!! The usual lights come on but nothing loads up and the screen stays black, no windows, nothing!! I've tried switching it off and back on a few times but nothings changed - could anybody offer any suggestions as to what the problem may be?

Any ideas would be very welcome!

Have you tried changing the display. Usualy function plus an f key. It might be set to external display (projector) etc.

I'd try connecting it up to a monitor, assuming it has the relevant port, and see if it's a case of the screen (or the backlight) having died.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

Yes, quite commonly a blue 'FN' on a key activates the other blue functions when both are pressed. Look for a 'screen' symbol.

    Battery is charged ?

Check the battery is properly seated. In fact just to make sure take the battery out and try starting it up. There are various things it could be but this is a simple one to check to start with.

Thank you for taking the time to reply - I REALLY appreceiate it!

Hubby has just taken the battery out and put it back in again, switched it on and we got a black screen with lots of white writing on (I know, I'm not very computer lit :o sorry) - part of it said something like 'previous boot up incomplete' and 'press F1 to resume' - we pressed F1... then got a black screen with 'operating system not found'......

..... Switched it off again... then switched it back on... and it has loaded windows, the desktop, all as normal.

    ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I'm very confused! Does this point to a hardware problem? I've no idea :o:o
