help needed please with laptop

Please can anyone help laptop wont start up the screen with safe mode start windows normally ect is coming on tried all that tried to reboot but nothing is working.

Please can someone advise on what to do if possible.

    When you turn the comp on it starts with windows and then goes into the screen I described before.

    Its not too clear to me blondie. But if I have this right your saying it wont boot normally but it will boot in safe mode? This points to something you installed or updated just before you had this problem. Do you know of anything that it could be?
    It will be something that AUTO loads on bootup anyways. So anti virus or graphics card driver or whatever.

    Yes it will boot in safe mode. Im not sure if anything has been installed lately as its my sons comp he never said he installed anything but no anti virus or graphic card.

    the computer doesnt have an anti virus installed??
    Could possibly be that it has a virus then. You really should have computer protection.
    Boot up in safe mode and goto Control Panel and find the list of installed programs. Im on Vista now but I guess you have XP? If its like mine it should give DATES. Is there anything you could try to uninstall that has been installed recently?
    If you can it would be best if you can ask your son if he has any idea though.

    Yes it has an anti virus installed.
    I cant get past the safe mode page.
    Son just came in and he said he hasnt installed anything for ages now.

    you need a XP CD to do a repair , did the Laptop come with a CD that says Operating System or is it a DELL ??

    Ordinarily blondie, at that stage I would personally wipe the computer and reinstall
