I am in the process of getting my cavity walls done with a voucher from powergen for £75 for my mid terrace house, i thought that covered up to a 3 bedroom house. I assume you use powergen for electric and it may depend on the grants available in different areas.0

That seems expensive - we have just been quoted £139 for a 4 bedroomed house. I know it does depend on what area you are in. We were told the true price for us was nearer £700, but they are currently offering huge discounts, subsidised by our local council. We are in berkshire.
Anyone who has had cavity wall insulation done, how much has it saved on your fuel bills?0 -

Not sure yet as my last bill for the "winter period 3 months" was £170! This year it seems alot warmer in the house and as I get up really early in the morning (3.15am) I haven't had to put the CH on yet. It also depends on how mild the winter is and I feel this year has been a bit warmer than last so a true reflection is not possible at the moment.**BERTIE**Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? (with no government funding) Please donate to the RNLI0 -

Following on from the thread yesterday re: cavity wall insulation, the majority of our house is cavity wall, yet we have a small 'bay' in our 3rd bedroom that sits over the storm porch at the front door. The cavity wall stops either side of the bay and it seems to just be a single skin wall of some description(sounds wooden) that is beneath the window, on the outside it is rendered over so can't see what exactly. It's probably about 1.5m of total wall space. If we get the rest of the house insulated, seems daft t have this small bit of wall(which is north facing and gets a bit of condensation due to it being thin/cold). What's best way to insualte this? CAn you buy panels to screw or fit in place, tried google but wall insulation is a bit tenuous and adding single just brings up full house insulation type companies. Anyone done small scale insualtion, or is it not worth it?0

At my previous house I converted the back of a single storey garage into a granny flat. It had single brick walls and single glazed windows and three of the four walls were outside walls. I fixed 5'' batons to the walls and put standard roof insulation (which comes in rolls) into the spaces and put plasterboard over them. I also put this insulation in the roof space (lots of heat lost through there) It made the flat exceptionally warm and cozy.I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!

went on this web site yesterday, got a phone number and gave them a call. She was really good and told me Scottish power was the cheapest in our area at the moment, also sending me info on loft top up and grants for a new boiler. All in all a very productive phone call.moneysavingplumber wrote:
