Parking ticket - question

I am a blue badge holder & parked in a disabled bay in a car park.
I forgot to display my blue badge
Received a parking ticket.
On looking at the signs it says orange badge holders must display them.
Do you think I have grounds for appeal?
Misleading signs?

no, "The Blue Badge scheme (which was previously the Orange Badge scheme) is run by the Dept Of Transport "
as you are probaly aware, if you parked and forgot to display its like saying i forgot to pay.

No, and how was the sign misleading?
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

when they put the ticket on your windscreen it probably shows on the photo that they take that a blue badge was not displayed
  • Who is the carpark owned by?
while you have no comeback with regards to the sign, certain places may be willing to void the ticket if you contact them with your badge number and explain that you forgot to display it.
    always worth a try.

honesty time . how many former ORANGE and now BLUE badge holders thought there was 2 schemes in operation, sorry but unless you can persuade the owners to revoke it youve (pardon the pun) not got a leg to stand on

If it was a council car park and your council is a reasonable one, write to them saying you forgot and you apologise profusely and will make sure it doesn't happen again. They may cancel the ticket.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

If it was a privately owned car park such as a supermarket throw the ticket in the bin and forget about it.
I've given up trying to get my signature to work with the new rules, if nobody knows what the rules are what hope do we have?
  • This has happened to me twice once locally and once outside a travelodge. Both times I have written a letter admitting I have made a mistake and the warden was quite right to have left me a ticket but asking is it possible to reduce the amount as I didn't think it fair that I should have the same fine as somebody who was not disabled and didn't have a badge to display. Both times I copied my badge and sent copy of my repeat prescription or any other proof of disability.I also sent cheque for the minimum amount for quick payment just incase. Both times I have been lucky enough to have cheque sent back because of evidence I sent and both companies said it was a one off.Good luck.

If it's a private company such as travelodge never send them any money, they have no right to fine the general public and they know it, they just try and scare people into paying. Just chuck the fine in the bin and any subsequent letters and forget about it.

  • The fine I got was not from Travelodge but from a company that serves that area. Travelodge were actually quite helpful and gave me the address of the head office of company.
I forgot to mention earlier I also copied my disabled tax disc to prove car registered disabled.
