we recently moved house from a cable broadband area to non-cable area, we have virgin broadband through our phoneline (we used to have virgin cable broadband)
since we moved there are certain websites that I can't access anymore or that time out before the pages load (HSBC, yahoo groups, flickr, argos, etc)
none of the settings on our desktop have changed since we moved - just the change in ISP and router. Our pc is running windows xp, service pack 2 and IE 7.
I can access these pages from my slightly newer laptop but I prefer to use my desktop for browsing and emails etc so would like to sort this out if possible
any ideas how I can improve my internet access?
thanks

are you using Vm's security, or are you using your own ?? Also, what firewall are you using and do you need to change the settings ??......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
I am using sygate firewall and AVG free virus checker
I don't know what firewall settings I would need to check/change in order for it to make a difference to my surfing - cos some sites work fine and others I just get the page cannot load messageMum of 7 (aged 14y to 1y)

Hmmm...sounds like a firewall issue...have you tried adding the sites you want to your "allowed sites" or similar list in your firewall ?? Try that first. Also,if a new router, you may need to set the internal firewall up (the one built into the router). Check your router's user manual..........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
