The battery is duff if the meter kills it overnight.

The problem with taxi type work is that if you're constantly starting the engine and doing short runs less than 5-6 miles, the charge used never gets replaced.

One of these things can be useful. You take your fuse out and plug it into this then plug this into where your fuse should be and it will check how much current drain there is. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Automotive-Current-Tester-Brand-New-UK-Stock_W0QQitemZ350049996932QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item350049996932&_trkparms=39%3A1|66%3A4|65%3A1|240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

But one easy way to check if it is the meter or the battery (or indeed something else) is to pull the fuse from the meter and see if the battery is still good the next morning.

its probably only an LED on the meter which draws very little current and wont drain a battery over night.

get the battery tested, most motor factors will test it for free for you.

thanks all, im a bit dubious about pulling the fuse until i know the meter will retain its memory, just paid £15 to have it reset for fare increases.
