days out in and near Bath with young children

We have a cottage booked for a week in the Mideford area just outside Bath and are looking for things to do with small children, 4 and 2 years. We thought we would use our Kelloggs vouchers to go to Bristol Zoo Gardens but other than that we are wide open to ideas such as good playgrounds, nice walks, good parks, markets, and restuarants and pubs that are child friendly but good for grownups too etc.. also interested in knowing what paying attractions eg Cheddar are worthwhile or a bit of a waste of money!

And pub/restuarant recomendations for any of the grownups able to escape for an evening also appreciated!

Many thanks
