You'd only get JSA-contribution based if you've paid enough NI in the relevant tax years. (I think its the previous 2 years but I'm not completely sure). You wouldn't qualify for JSA income based due to your hubbys wages though you might get help with housing/council tax. Try putting details here https://www.entitledto.com0

What I haven't yet seen pointed out is about your NI contributions and maternity allowance. If you haven't got enough years or the 'right' years for this I believe you can make a back payment of your NI conts and thus claim the benefit. I'd stress this doesn't work for JSA, you can't backpay in order to claim that!Spendless wrote:You'd only get JSA-contribution based if you've paid enough NI in the relevant tax years. Maternity Allowance is not dependant on NI contributions, not for an employee anyway, the rules for self employed may be different. You just need to have worked 26 out of the 66 week weeks b4 baby is due and earned at least £30 in those 26 weeks (don't have to be consecutive ones). I claimed MA but didn't have a job that paid enough for me to be paying NI. The rules for SMP may be different.Savvy_Sue wrote:What I haven't yet seen pointed out is about your NI contributions and maternity allowance. I think they are different for the self-employed, especially if you've had an exemption certificate for low earnings.Spendless wrote:Maternity Allowance is not dependant on NI contributions, not for an employee anyway, the rules for self employed may be different. You just need to have worked 26 out of the 66 week weeks b4 baby is due and earned at least £30 in those 26 weeks (don't have to be consecutive ones).
