Playstation Portable (PSP) broken UMD drive

I feel bad. I have some neighbours who are disabled (visually impaired) and although the husband works long and hard, they often struggle to make ends meet. They have three children and as I no longer used my PSP, I decided that their eldest boy (9yo) might get more fun out of it.

So I popped round and gave Jack the PSP and handful of games I had. He was ecstatic, as were his parents - who offered me some money, which I declined.

Unfortunately the joy only lasted about an hour. Jack had been playing one game decided to try another and accidentally damaged the UMD drive (UMDs were no longer being read and the spinning icon didn't show). It was basically dead.

I would love to spend another £130 to get a new PSP for them but my generosity can only really stretch to donating things I no longer need.

I rang Sony Customer Services on the behalf but as the PSP is out of warranty they could not help.

I find it hard to believe that Sony can produce a games machine that is so fragile a careful boy can damage it in less than an hour.

But I do feel bad. I wish I'd never given them the PSP in the first place.
