Olympics 2012 - renting out your house?

(I started my own thread, below, before looking at this one - if anyone has some good links could they please post them? Ta!)
I'm thinking of renting my 2-bed flat in Greenwich for the Olympics/Paralympic Games but have no idea where to start. I've done a quick Google and sites dedicated to this seem to be advertising similar properties for around £2k per week so there's real potential for me to make some dosh, but I'm not sure about these websites' integrity! And then there are the legalities to think about... Can anyone recommend a website with info on this? Cheers!0 -
Why not looik at websites that already offer accomodation for events like Wimbledon? Those that have been around for years will have an established reputation to maintain and protect. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

Hi guys just looking to resurrect this thread, has anyone had any luck sorting something out on this yet or know of any sites to try or avoid? I'm just starting to look into this but finding anything useful is proving challenging!
Much appreciated0 -
All participating athletes and coaching staff will be housed in 5* hotels surely? Why on earth would they want to be homed in someones 2 up 2 down??
Only spectators will be looking for somewhere to stay and i would imagine half of them at the very least will be British or London based anyway, the other half from all over the world but again i would imagine hotels would be their 1st choice.
Olympics only lasts a few weeks, wouldn't be worth it. London i doubt will run out of hotels
This did make me laugh. Certainly for athletics, the best the athletes can hope for is the athletic village, the worst is stay at home and bus/train it in. Coaches... well, unless you're a national coach (each event has one, but they don't necessarily coach our competing athletes) they will have to sort themselves out I would say. I know of one coach who had coached an athlete who has been at international level for a number of years. During the Athens Olympics, he paid for his own flights and accommodation and didn't even get a stadium pass....0 -
i looked in to this with Foxtons. As said before, they take what works out to be about 30% commission, plus a one off £1000 to cover legalities, documents, cleaning etc. they are now quoting a price of 5 times normal rent, not 10 times. Are there any other recommendations of agencies who charge less?0

If I had a well-located property near the site, this would be a great time to be emailing production service companies (eg the BBC, PRG, Britannia Row, Star Events) who may have staff going to work on the site who might take the place. You'll get a better class of punter if their employer rents it directly and you'll have lower costs than via an agent.0

hm i woudl have thought companies like that would be more likely to sort out all their accommodation through an agent, rather than taking requests from a random person who emails them.If I had a well-located property near the site, this would be a great time to be emailing production service companies (eg the BBC, PRG, Britannia Row, Star Events) who may have staff going to work on the site who might take the place.
