I have both given and received on Freecycle, and also had to put on a wanted today for a rabbit hutch as we found out our boy rabbit wasnt such a boy and gave birth to 2 little babies so in desperate need to seperate mum and dad apart i put the wanted ad on and a lovely lady who doesnt know me from ADam was very understanding and gave me a vertually unused Hutch .Thank heavens for freecycle I say . I have had replies from my offered ads too with "I can collect today ring me on my mobile " no manners what so ever , on the odd ocassion i just delete ,now and then I reply with "many thanks for your email how ever manners cost nothing "
Sorry to ramble on , ppl that ask for laptops and mobile phones with bluetooth and must have camera annoy me surely if they was desperate they would take any old housebrick fone on offer ..

    xx

    HAPPY FREECYCING

As of last week i were a newbie of Freecycle, the groups i joined specified i were to donate before i could request and also some of the local groups i requested to join turned me down due to being too far out from the centre of there radius (in one case by 2 miles!!) so as to reduce the carbon footprint.
Having donated/gifted a number of household items am now finding some things such as net curtains (some are still available to buy in td direct) and hardly used bath mats are unwanted and yet if it is and electrical item or something which could be quite costly to buy new is snapped up. Showing it is either a greed culture breeding on there or are people purely wanting to make a quick buck through resale methods.

  • I'm new to freecycle, just wondering how do i search members? I have given away a fair few bits over last two days, nothing major, but want to offer some larger items soon, and want to make sure they go to the right people.
    Many thanks

I'm not sure what you mean. How would searching members help you to know if they were the 'right people'? If it's a case of wanting things to go to people who've already received other things from you, then why don't you just email them directly? You will have their email addresses from when they've contacted you to reply to your 'offered' posts.

We joined freecycle yesterday as we have been dumping stuff that would have been good for someone else so its idea appealed.

Put a tumble dryer on there and have a had a good response - how do we decide who gets it ? Is it first come, first served ?

I wasn't expecting to have a moral dilemma over giving stuff away..........

    Your replies/advice are sought....

I feel that a proper emails with courtesies are the ones I give attention to.
Have had to put a couple of reminders on the boards to the members about 'niceness' to others as we were getting complaints.
Some were getting quite rude when they weren't chosen!!

They forget that out of the kindness of a persons heart, they are giving away their property.......and that they can give it to whom they choose.

Oh yes, and rudeness on collection too!! Some people!!
As a Moderator, I can tell you they didn't stay members for long!

Hope you enjoy your experience. Majority of the time you'll be fine xx

On the home page of your group above where the items on offer are listed is a little box, put the username of the person you want to know about there and press search, this will list everything that person has ever offered on freecycle. I hope that helps ;)
